In India, millions of women from underserved communities face systemic barriers to employment, financial independence, and formal skill-building opportunities. Despite the growth of the beauty and wellness sector in urban and semi-urban India, access to training and certification for aspiring beauty professionals remains uneven, especially for women in low-income settings. According to the Skill India Annual Report (2023), less than 10% of beauty service workers in informal salons have received formal training or certification. Meanwhile, limited financial support and exposure to exploitative working conditions further compound the employment gap.
Founded in response to these challenges, The Indian Cosmetology Alliance (TICA) is a grassroots initiative that aims to expand employment access in the beauty and grooming industry through structured training, strategic placement, and inclusive hiring practices. The project recognizes beauty as a viable and dignified career path—and seeks to equip women with the tools, networks, and certifications necessary to thrive in this space.
